By David Doub Please introduce yourself and describe your chosen Creative Medium. My name is Hannah Isabelle, I am a watercolor illustrator who loves to illustrate plants, flowers, and portraits. What got you into your Creative Medium? What schooling and experiences help lead you there? What do you do to continue to learn and improve? I’m a mostly self taught artist and ever since I was a child I remember painting with watercolor paints on printer paper. I took a couple beginner art classes in community college but what really sparked my interest in art as a whole was my History of Animation course. I would spend almost the entire class period doodling in my sketchbook while watching short films. Something about it was so freeing, and I feel like I’ve lost that self expression. I’ll always viewing my sketchbook as needing to be a perfect portfolio of completed illustrations. What are some of your favorite works? What do enjoy about creating? What are some pet peeves? As far as work from other artists, I’m really inspired by the work of Minnie Smalls, Victoria Gedvillas (also known as Juicy Ink on YouTube), and Jamie Green (also known as jamiemgreenart) just to name my top three. As far as my own work, it would have to be my series “In the Garden” which is a series of illustrations of fairy houses inspired by the months of the year. Being a creature of instant gratification, what I enjoy about creating is the end result. On a good day, I do enjoy the process of brainstorming and thumb-nailing a piece, seeing an illustration come together is magical. However, my pet peeve is when a piece isn’t quite translating on to paper like I want to. I get frustrated easily with myself in those moments and I’m working to be patient and improve myself in those moments. Who are some local creators who you enjoy their work or are just generally awesome people? Please explain why. In 2018 my sister introduced me to her friends Maysa Sem and Jefferson Muncy. We quickly became fast friends! I have grown so much as an artist thanks to them, I don’t think I would have had the confidence to apply to shows, open an art store on Etsy, and accept commissions without their guidance. What are some of your favorite local conventions? Can you share any particular fun memories? WOW Con will actually be my first ever convention as a tabling artist! What do you look forward to for Women of Wonder Con? What do you hope people can take away from Women of Wonder Convention? I look forward to meeting other local artists! I think of myself as a particularly shy person so participating in Women of Wonder Con will bring me out of my shell. I hope that people will be inspired to look at art as an industry for all people. I hope that WOW Con is an example of a community of acceptance and a place that cultivates creativity.
