What got you into cosplay? What keeps you in it? Halloween has always been my favorite time of year because I loved dressing up. I hated that I hate to wait an entire year to do it again. Once I started attending conventions and finding out I could do it year round, I dived head first into cosplay. I keep cosplaying because it's an addiction. Hobby is just too light of a word. Once you find out you can have the high of Halloween year round, you just keep chasing your next costume fix. I also host movies at Alamo Drafthouse and dress up for those once a month at least. Last year I did 30 cosplays but most were for events at Alamo Drafthouse. What have been some creative challenges in Cosplay? How have you’ve solved such challenges? I cannot sew. I cannot style hair. I cannot do fancy makeup. I call my style of cosplay DIET cosplay because it's mostly thrifted or easy to do costumes. I would love to learn to do all 3, but who has the time? What are the Pros and Cons of Cosplay as whole? The PROS are that you can be someone different whenever you want and it's a creative outlet. The CONS would be that it is absolutely an addiction and a very expensive hobby to have. With the crossover of Cosplay and Modeling with the increased focus of Body Positivity, who do view how Cosplay has dealt with this subject? From my personal experiences, cosplay has been a great way for me to feel better about my body. I never thought I would wear spandex in public, but I've done 3 spandex suits now. I see a lot of negativity online and I hate it. Cosplaying is for everyone and I am so blessed to be surrounded by supportive people in the cosplay community. What is your favorite con story? The very first time I ever cosplayed was as Cheryl Tunt from Archer at All-Con. It was a closet cosplay and very simple. But people knew who I was and asked for photos with me. I even participated in an Archer group meetup and made some great friends. What are some of your favorite events? I could be bias and say Lubbock-Con, but since that is my event, I rarely, if ever, have the time to cosplay at it. Yellow City Comic Con in Amarillo, Texas is a family tradition of ours. We go every year as a family and do a family cosplay. It is a lot of fun. I love that my family supports and enjoys my weird hobby. Who are some of your favorite local cosplayers? What are other local cosplayers doing that you really appreciate and/or admire? Leah Bocanegra is originally from Lubbock but runs Capes for Kindness in DFW. She always finds unique and thrifty ways to build her costumes and she always looks incredible. Her initiative with CAUSEplaying for charity and children is something I admire greatly. I would love to do that more here in Lubbock. If you could cosplay anything or anyone regardless of money, time and effort, what would it be? JANE JETSON HANDS DOWN!! I want a custom made suit and wig. She has always been on of my favorite characters and I just do not have the talent to create her awesome space dress. If there was one thing you could say about Cosplay for all to hear, what would that one thing be? JUST DO IT! Do not be afraid of what others will think. Just have FUN! https://www.instagram.com/thebigbadmamawolf https://www.facebook.com/thebigbadmamawolf/ https://bigbadmamawolf.wordpress.com/
